There’s a lot to keep track of in Baldur’s Gate 3, and it can be a very confusing game to start with, especially if you’re unfamiliar with the rules of D&D.

This can cause many players to not engage with some of the more complex mechanics, as there is so much to learn early in the game.

Still, it’s rare that one of the game’s most essential mechanics, rest, is completely ignored by players, given its importance in keeping your party both healthy and powerful. Taking a long rest allows you to return to full health and restore your spells and abilities, while refilling your short rests, making them the best way to continue getting stronger.

But one player misunderstood the vital mechanic, to the point of only using it three times in ten hours of play.

The misunderstanding arose when this player, who posted his experience on the Baldur’s Gate 3 forums, incorrectly concluded that taking long rests would advance the story. Unwilling to move forward, they refused to get much rest, leaving their party very weak.

They said: “With all the hype this game got in the beginning, I felt like the world was designed in such a way that it changes as the characters progress through the story , and I assumed the story progressed as you progressed. long rests. Oh man.”

“I played 10 hours in one stop and only rested 3 times. I treated spells as an extremely rare resource and only used them when absolutely necessary. This is what made the game difficult.
