Barbra Streisand said it Yentl his co-star Mandy Patinkin made his life “miserable for months” while filming the 1983 musical romantic comedy.

The two co-directed Streisand’s directorial debut as students who meet at a yeshiva after Yentl (Streisand) disguises himself as a boy. Yentl soon finds herself in love with Avigdor (Patinkin), already engaged.

Streisand, 81, has written about her work alongside The princess to marry star, 70, in his new memoir, My name is Barbrarevealing that Patinkin, who was married, had proposed to her that they had an affair.

“There was a moment, about a week into filming, where Mandy and I were doing a scene in the yeshiva,” Streisand recalls. “I think he had two or three lines, but he wouldn’t look me in the eye. He just looked at my forehead.

When she later confronted him about his behavior, Streisand said, “His face crumpled and he said, ‘I thought we were going to have a more personal relationship.’

“‘What?’ I had no idea what he was talking about,” she continued. “(He said) ‘I thought we were going to have an affair.’ I looked at him like he was crazy. . . 1) I would never have an affair with an actor I managed, 2) he was married and 3) I wasn’t attracted to him at all. But I couldn’t tell him that I wasn’t really fascinated by him. I didn’t want to hurt his feelings, so I just said, “I don’t work that way.” Tears ran down her cheeks. »

THE Funny girl star said she threatened to replace the Criminal minds former student if his “behavior” continues. “We’re only two weeks in. I can reshoot all your scenes if you can’t be more professional. I’ve waited fifteen years to make my dream come true and I won’t let you destroy it,'” wrote Streisand.

“At this point, Mandy had been making my life miserable for months and I just couldn’t stand the thought of having sex with him. I’m not a very good actress,” she added.

“So I changed it. I rewrote the scene. And now that I think about it, I wonder if I let my frustration with Mandy override my instincts. Maybe I should have left Yentl. . . and the public. . . have this moment.

The independent has contacted Patinkin’s representative for comment.

Patinkin has been married to actress Kathryn Grody since 1980. Streisand, on the other hand, is married. Oceans Eleven star Elliott Gould in 1963 before divorcing in 1971. She later remarried actor James Brolin in 1998.

In an interview with the BBC, ahead of the publication of her nearly 1,000-page memoir, she admitted that she hadn’t had “a lot of fun in my life.”

“I want to live my life,” Streisand told BBC music correspondent Mark Savage. “I haven’t had much fun in my life, to tell you the truth. And I want to have more fun.
