Kelly Clarkson is happy to learn that Patrick Dempsey has been crowned People’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2023.
The 41-year-old talk show host — who recently embarked on a drastic weight loss — spoke with Access Hollywood while attending SiriusXM Next Generation: Industry & Press Preview.
During the red carpet interview, the singer said she was shocked that Dempsey, 57, had not received the honor before.
“He never had it?” she asked. ‘What?! It shocks me so much that he’s never had one before. I would have thought it would have been a second or third time. Boy, we really missed that one.
She also jokingly referred to 2017 winner Blake Shelton, saying, “And Blake got it!” before quickly clarifying: “I’m joking!” I’m just kidding! Blake deserved it.
Kelly also complimented the former Grey’s Anatomy actor, noting that he had “great hair.”
Dempsey’s ‘Sexiest Man Alive’ title comes after it was bestowed last year on Chris Evans.
He admitted he was shocked to receive the honor and joked that he was “always the maid of honor” when talking about finally achieving the accolade.
“I was always the maid of honor!” I had completely forgotten about it and never even considered being in this position. So my ego is good,” he said.
He is the second oldest star to win the title; Sean Connery was named the sexiest man alive in 1989, at the age of 59.
Patrick’s turn as the magazine’s sexiest star was announced Tuesday night on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
The show featured an appearance by the former Grey’s Anatomy lead, 57, while the cover of the issue was shown.
“Thank you so much,” the actor, father of daughter Talula, 21, and twins Darby and Sullivan, 16, and wife Jillian, 57, said after the news broke.
As for Kelly, she recently turned heads with her transformative weight loss.
On Monday’s episode of her eponymous talk show, she bonded with Jenna Bush Hager after having a “chubby” phase.
The Stronger hitmaker discussed her weight struggles with Today With co-host Hoda & Jenna and admitted she “loves losing weight.”
In June 2018, she told Extra that most of her weight gain was due to an autoimmune disease and thyroid disease that she was diagnosed with in 2006.
