Matthew Perry’s ex-girlfriend Kayti Edwards speculates that the ‘Friends’ star may have relapsed in the time leading up to his death.
“I know Matthew and I know he wouldn’t have just drowned,” Edwards told the UK Sun in an interview published on Saturday.
“I think he may have taken some pills in the week leading up to this.”
The former model claims she briefly dated Perry in 2006 after meeting at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting.
She alleges that they remained close after their affair ended and that she even worked as his assistant in 2011.
On October 28, Perry was found dead, apparently drowned, in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home. He was 54 years old.
Despite initial negative toxicology reports for fentanyl or methamphetamine, Edwards says “things don’t add up” when it comes to the details of her death.
“They said there were no prescription painkillers at the scene, which doesn’t surprise me, because he didn’t leave any medications lying around,” Edwards said.
As previously reported, no illegal drugs were found on the grounds of Perry’s Pacific Palisades dig, with the exception of a few prescription medications.
“He was paranoid and he would take them all, so there was no proof, and then he would go out and find out more when he was ready to do so.”
Edwards told the outlet that Perry’s latest Instagram post contained clues suggesting a possible relapse.
The comedian’s last Instagram post, taken five days before his death, was a photo of him in the jacuzzi with the caption: “Oh, so hot swirling water makes you feel good?” My name is Mattman.

According to Edwards, Perry’s use of “Mattman” may have been an indication that the “Whole Nine Yards” star was once again using illegal drugs.
“This Mattman thing wasn’t something he did when he was sober. Mattman would go out when he wasn’t sober and he felt pretty invincible,” Edwards said.
“I was there when he was getting high, even though I wasn’t getting high with him, and when I said maybe he should take it easy on drugs, he said, ‘No, my name’s Mattman .'”
Edwards further claimed that Perry had an affinity for being in the water when drinking alcohol or using drugs, alleging that a former neighbor once found him “naked and stoned in the pool of his neighbour)”.
“I had to go over there and get him out of his neighbor’s pool. “He had a problem with water when he was on drugs,” she said, adding that Perry would have been “always alone” when he was on drugs.
A representative for Perry did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Edwards previously claimed to be a delivery driver for Perry at the height of her addiction in 2011, telling The Sun in a 2020 interview that she would pick up “cocaine, heroin and crack” for the actor while She was five months pregnant.
“I was five months pregnant, I was going down to get some stuff for him. He (said), “No one is going to arrest a pregnant girl. Don’t worry,” she recalls.
In Perry’s memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” the actor detailed his tumultuous decades-long history of drug and alcohol abuse.
The ’90s sitcom star spoke candidly about the good, the bad and the ugly of her life plagued by addiction.
“Not only do I have the disease, but I also have it seriously. I’m in as bad a situation as it can be, actually. It’s always back-to-the-wall time. It’s going to kill me…”
Perry was buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills on November 8.
