A new website is keeping New Yorkers informed about Mayor Eric Adams’ arrest as part of a federal investigation into his campaign fundraising.
The website, https://hasericadamsbeenarrested.site, posts daily updates on whether Hizzoner was handcuffed as a result of the FBI’s investigation into his 2021 campaign, which is trying to determine whether there was collusion with the Turkish government and others to funnel money into Mayor Adams’ efforts.
“ERIC ADAMS STATUS: NOT ARRESTED,” the page read Saturday morning, accompanied by a cheesy graphic of Adams behind bars.
“The FBI seized and made a copy of Eric Adams’ iPhone. This is the first time that a 3-letter agency has cloned the phone of a New York City mayor,” he noted in an article published Friday.
“Aww man, what’s taking so long?” a user wrote in response to Friday’s update that Adams was still on the move.
The anonymous user behind the X NYC Bike Lanes account told the Post that he started the website, but did not immediately provide evidence or answer questions about why he created the page.
On Monday, federal investigators seized Adams’ electronic devicesincluding at least two cell phones and an iPad.
Adams’ campaign lawyer, Boyd Johnson, said the mayor was cooperating with federal authorities and had already informed them of a review that determined “an individual had recently acted inappropriately.”
“In the spirit of transparency and cooperation, this behavior was immediately and proactively reported to investigators,” Johnson said in a statement.
The seizure of Adams’ devices came a week after FBI agents raided the home of his top campaign fundraiser, Brianna Suggs, 25, prompting the mayor to abandon a series of meetings on immigration to the White House and returning to the Big Apple.
Investigators were specifically looking for evidence that campaign staff conspired with Brooklyn construction company KSK and the Turkish government to use “straw donors” to illegally funnel foreign money into their campaign coffers in exchange of favors, police sources said.
A straw donor is a person or company that illegally donates with someone else’s money, but uses their own name to hide their true source.
Neither the mayor, nor his team, nor anyone else has been charged with crimes so far. Adams has denied any wrongdoing.
